Practical Garden Renovation Solutions in Cheltenham

This recent garden renovation in Cheltenham involved transforming an awkward new build garden into a space that was far more practical, attractive, and enjoyable to use. Like many new build gardens, the original layout looked unfinished and did not make the most of the available space. The garden had a heavy slope, a patio area that was too small to be properly useful, and drainage issues around the garage that were beginning to cause concern.

The homeowners wanted a garden that worked better day to day, looked more polished, and dealt properly with the main problem areas. Working to a sensible budget, we carried out a full overhaul focused on improving the structure, drainage, and usability of the space.

One of the main challenges with this Cheltenham landscaping project was the slope running through the garden. To solve this, we installed a raised garden bed to help manage the levels and give the space a much cleaner, more intentional layout. This not only improved the appearance of the garden, but also made it feel more balanced and easier to use.

We also addressed the drainage issue around the garage by installing a soakaway line around the perimeter. This was done to help prevent water pooling against the brickwork and to improve how surface water was managed in that part of the garden. Proper drainage is a big part of any successful garden renovation, and it is always better to deal with these issues early rather than leave them to become a bigger problem later on.

To create a more usable outdoor seating area, we laid just over 10m² of sandstone patio. The original patio was undersized and did not offer enough room to comfortably enjoy the garden. The new sandstone patio gives the homeowners a much more generous area for seating, relaxing, and making better use of the garden during the warmer months. Sandstone remains a popular choice for garden patios in Cheltenham thanks to its natural look, solid finish, and timeless feel.

The finished result is a far more practical and better-looking garden that suits the property properly. What started as a basic new build garden with an awkward slope, limited patio space, and drainage concerns is now a well-structured outdoor space built for real everyday use.
